Our Story

In 1993 Tommy Byrne and his two friends (The Trad Brothers) were the first musicians to play in a new bar in Dublin called Oliver St. John Gogarty’s. Their new high energy style of traditional Irish music drew tourists from all over the city to this pub. More and more bars opened up and the area is now the world famous Temple Bar.

Tommy went on to direct Irish dance shows all over the world with the biggest being Feet of Fire in New Zealand with 30 Irish dancers and 8 piece band.

 

It was while working with DJs in Ibiza Tommy met Julie and a few years later they married, the boys came along and they moved from Dublin to Donegal.

It was here the boys started learning how to play and dance and before long they were county champions on their instruments and Ulster Champion Irish dancers and Finn a world qualifier.

Dad Tommy ran Irish Shows for the tourists in the local Central Hotel and the boys became firm favorites with the audiences, especially Dempsey who was only 2 at the time.

 

In 2015 they auditioned and were chosen to perform on Ireland’s biggest TV show of the year, The Late Late Toy Show. With this came front page photos of every Irish newspaper and The Byrne Brothers in their Donegal tweed hats and waistcoats became a household name.

 

In 2016 while performing at the All Ireland Fleadh, The Byrne Brothers had their first viral video which received 3.4 million views and was the most watched and shared video from Ireland that year.

 

In 2017 while performing in Galway they had another viral video which had over 18 million views and was the most viewed and shared video from Ireland again on Facebook. They have over 30 million views in total on social media to date.

 

It was in 2017 they were invited to perform at Raglan Road in Disney Springs in Walt Disney World Orlando for 2 weeks during their St. Patrick’s Day celebrations and went down a storm with the American audiences. The Byrne family knew that this is where they wanted to live. 

 

They applied for and received their green cards through a visa for extraordinary ability in the arts and in 2018 they sold up in Donegal and moved to Orlando Florida. 

They performed for 6 months in Raglan Road where they became the youngest ever cast members of Walt Disney World. From there they started their first US tour performing in 33 States and playing at many of the biggest Irish festivals in the world.. 

 

Their 2019 tour made the number of states 45 including Hawaii and also included performances at Milwaukee Irish Fest, Cleveland Cultural Irish Festival, The Great American Irish Festival, Ohio Celtic Fest, Irish Gathering Colorado, Cape Coral Irish Fest, Mount Dora Highland Games to name a few. They have also performed at many Irish Centers from San Francisco to New York, Performing Arts Centers and 2 Carribean cruises. 

 

During the 2020 pandemic they were asked back to Disney where they performed at Raglan Road for the year and were also on the front cover of The Irish Music Magazine. 

 

2021 started with The Byrne Brothers receiving two awards from the American Celtic Radio Listeners Awards with the award for “Rising Stars of the Year 2021” and “Album Cover of the Year Award” for their new album Living the Dream which was taken and arranged by then, 17 year old Luca.

Their most recent award is from the Young Artist Academy in Hollywood for Outstanding Music Ensemble 2022.

 

Irish Festivals they have performed at include, Motor City Irish Fest in Detroit and Celtic Fest Ohio, Dublin Irish Fest, La Crosse Irish Fest, Milwaukee Irish Fest, Peoria Celtic Fest, Long Peaks Highland and Celtic Games in Estes Park Colorado, Cleveland Irish Cultural Fest, Spanish Peaks International Celtic Festival Colorado, Bitterroot Irish Fest Montana, Maryland Irish Fest, Dunedin Highland Games and Florida Folk Festival to name a few.

 

With over 70,000 followers on social media and between 31 million plus views on all of their music videos and live streams The Byrne Brothers are doing well in America and look forward to a world tour as soon as they get a chance.
